Alcove Arch KY 87
Livingston County · Mississippian Plateau
Located .2 miles along the cliffline from Mantle Rock heading to the NE and is behind some boulders. Upon inspection this doesn't look to be an arch at all, still several thousand years of weathering needed to make this an arch.
Documented September 1996. Upon a visit by Bill Fultz and Christopher Morris on 9/16/23 it was determined that this feature is not an offical arch yet. It has some growing to do. There was only a small amount of visible light in the entire length of the crack. By small amount I mean a few inches. However, after reading Chris Moore's documentation information in the Journal Of Natural Arch Discoveries, the name says "Alcove Arch?" but the description says this, "this tunnel type opening is about 40' long. It is so dark and at such an angle that a good photo is nearly impossible." In our exploration there are several tunnel type openings along this cliff line in the watershed, however all were false arches as it was boulders leaning against the cliff or other boulders. Conflicting and confusing information here but until someone proves otherwise, this arch has been debunked.
